Alleged Offences:
Contrary to Section 187 (1) of the Companies Act 1990, the defendant, carrying on business under the name and style of Lauri Quinn, Quinn & Company, acted as auditor of four companies when not qualified to do so. In addition, contrary to Section 242(1) of the Companies Act 1990, he completed and produced reports as the auditors of those same companies which purported to be reports of Lauri Quinn, Quinn & Company, which reports were false in a material particular because they had neither been produced nor completed by a qualified auditor or firm of auditors or on their behalf. A total of fourteen charges were before the court relating to Mr Quinn having acted as auditor and completing and producing reports as auditors for two financial years in respect of three of the four companies and in respect of one financial year for the other company.

Outcome:
On a plea of guilty, the Court convicted the defendant on seven charges pursuant to Section 187(6) and (9) of the Companies Act 1990 and on a further seven charges pursuant to Section 242(1) of the Companies Act 1990. The Court imposed a fine of €1,500 in respect of one of the Section 187 charges, taking all other charges into consideration, and directed the defendant to pay prosecution costs of €1,250.
